Travelling with Fabian Part 2: New Years Eve in GOA

Hmm… so after Christmas came New Years Eve. A very memorable time this year. We decide to spend it in Goa together with Ravaka, one of my very dear Genevan friends, her boyfriend Pontus (and his mom) from Sweden who are currently working in Bangalore in the south India. Goa is apparently “the place to be” during that time of the year and since it is geographically quite exactly between our two cities, it seemed to be the perfect option.

After night in the train we arrived in Candolim, one of the beach town in the state of Goa, an ancient Portuguese colony which is by the way the smallest state of India being just about a bit bigger than the Swiss canton of Vaud/Waadt.

The first impression was awful!!! White, sunburned, ”uncivilized” people, girls in miniskirts and low cut spaghetti tops (which in India usually is not at all ok) and guys drinking beer in the streets already at 11 the morning. In addition, our hotel was not at all what we expected it to be, so we were shocked and wanted to leave immediately and spend our vacation in a culturally interesting place instead of staying in Ballermann 2.

Beachlife in Calangute Beach.

But this impression was soon to be changed. We got to know the magnificent beach shacks along the beach (one small restaurant after another serving good snacks and seafood and drinks throughout the day), strolled through the immense flea market of Anjuna where we bought plenty of souvenirs and gifts and just let ourselves go with the chilled out flow of GOA. Once you get into the relaxed mood and realize that you can just lie in a long chair, have some drinks, get your feet massaged etc. for the whole day…then Goa actually becomes the paradise you expected it to be.

Cows on the beach... i told you they are everywhere !!! :)
Happy belated New Year !! ...and thank you Ravaka and Pontus for an amazing time !
